bpf Trustees


We are currently seeking members to become trustees. The ideal candidates will have a strong commitment to the bpf’s mission and values.

Essential criteria

The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate some aspects of the following:

  • understanding of the role of a Board of Trustees.
  • ability to challenge rigorously and debate constructively.
  • strong communication and inter-personal skills.
  • genuine interest in the work of the British Psychotherapy Foundation.
  • knowledge of safeguarding practices as determined by the Safeguarding Adult Board and Charity Commission experience.

We particularly welcome applications from women, disabled and Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic [BAME] candidates.

The successful candidates must abide by The Nolan principles – The seven principles of public life (See Annex A)

Time commitment and term of office

Meetings are held quarterly with members attending brief pre and post-meeting private discussions.

Trustees may be contacted between meetings via email or telephone, on a limited basis and only as strictly necessary.

Meetings are scheduled one year in advance and dates will only change in exceptional circumstances. Attendance is recorded and published as part of the annual reporting cycle.

Meetings primarily take place online via teams.

The initial term of office is three years, subject to performance. Members are not employees of the British Psychotherapy Foundation. The British Psychotherapy Foundation has discretion to renew the appointment at the end of the first term of office, subject to consistently good performance. There should therefore be no assumption of automatic reappointment.

Jungian required for a 90-minute talk on Narcissistic and borderline states of mind in the consulting room and beyond


We are calling on Jungian Analysts or Jungian psychotherapists who may be interested in doing a talk for the BPF’s flagship foundation course.

The Foundation Course has been specifically designed for individuals who are either considering psychotherapy training and/or are curious about psychoanalytic and Jungian thinking and how these ideas can be applied to the world in which we live.

We will offer support and access to the course handbook as well as share best practice with any potential applicant. We can also help with designing a reading list for the talk and support in preparing the talk if required.


Commitment:

The same talk with take place twice at the following times:
1pm- 2:30pm on Saturday 10 May 2025 via zoom

1pm – 2:30pm on Saturday 12 July 2025 at the BPF House in Kilburn

We welcome expressions of interest from all psychotherapists, from those with many years’ experience, to those who are freshly qualified and looking to gain some teaching experience.

We are particularly keen to encourage applications from bpf members who are LGBTQIA+ or from BAME backgrounds, but all applications are welcome.

This is a paid role of £70 per 90-minute talk

Director of bpf Infant Observation Training

Closing Date: 10th February 2025

Job Title: Director of bpf Infant Observation Training

Working For: British Psychotherapy Foundation

Contract duration: Permanent

Hours of work: 1/2 day a week, including some evenings and weekends (meetings or training days). Hours can be worked flexibly around clinical work although some meetings such as Heads of Trainings meetings and all staff meetings should be attended. The hours could increase if the training courses grow.

Location: Working from home, occasional visits to teaching rooms, and occasional visits to bpf house in London.

Salary: £60,000 fte £6,000 for half a day a week

Annual leave: 30 days plus Bank Holidays

Pension: Employer 3%, employee 5%

Notice period: One month.

Qualifications:

Qualified psychoanalytic, Jungian or psychodynamic psychotherapist who has completed a two-year psychoanalytic infant observation.

Major responsibilities:

  • Attend line management meetings.
  • Oversee the running of the Infant Observation course as a whole.
  • Work closely with the training director of the IPCAPA child and adolescent training and the directors of the Jungian and Psychoanalytic trainings.
  • Attend the psychodynamic training to talk to trainees about the infant obs course.
  • Promote the course by presenting on open days/seminars/conferences.
  • Provide an interface between this course and the bpf Heads of Training meeting.
  • Manage the team of Seminar Leaders and deal with problem issues as they occur (eg Seminar Leader illness/pregnancy or students in difficulty).
  • Work closely with the infant obs manager regarding the operational management of the course, eg. Vetting incoming applications & advising re initial enquiries relating to clinical matters or to the route through to Jungian/Psychoanalytic training.
  • Organise representation by committee members on open day events.
  • Organise Infant Observation committee meeting bi-annually or termly if needed for the team to think about eg. specific students in difficulty to give progress notes through Association reps to the students’ training association/share best practice ideas/learn about the impact of new technology/grow the course to meet bpf trainings and the students’ needs.

Psychodynamic Training Clinical Seminar Leaders

Closing Date: Ongoing

Job Title: Psychodynamic Training Clinical Seminar Leaders

Hours of work: 11.00am – 12.30pm and 2.15pm – 3.45pm on Fridays during the academic year.

Location: bpf House, 37 Mapesbury Road, NW2 4HJ. 

Start date: Starting date 28th February 2025. 

Salary: £100 for each 1.5 hour group (to include marking and assessment).

Qualifications:

  • Must be a qualified psychodynamic or psychoanalytic/Jungian analytic psychotherapist registered with BPC, UKCP or other registration body relevant to dynamic or analytic training.

Experience:

  • To have experience of conducting clinical seminars with small groups of 8-10 people.

Responsibilities:

  • To work with the course seminar tutor in following the weekly set curriculum themes.
  • To deliver one weekly clinical seminar of 1.5 hours in each term which is related to the trainees’ clinical work
  • To facilitate a small group of trainees to present their clinical work over the course of each term (two trainees per seminar)
  • To lead a group discussion on the clinical work presented
  • To support with marking and assessment of coursework
