Chief Executive Officer - 2 year fixed term contract

We are looking for a high-calibre chief executive to complete the consolidation of a major psychotherapy organisation and to lay the groundwork for its future expansion. The bpf is one of the largest and most prestigious psychotherapy training and membership organisations in the UK and Europe. We embrace a span of psychoanalytically-oriented approaches: psychoanalysis, psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapies, Jungian analysis and child and adolescent psychotherapy.

We offer qualifying clinical training programmes, pre- and post-qualifying courses and CPD opportunities, seminars, conferences and events and a professional home for our members. We also engage with policy makers, opinion formers, media professionals, professional colleagues within health and social care and the general public promoting the benefits of psychoanalytic psychotherapy and ideas.

The focus of the job

Alongside ensuring the smooth running of the organisation, we are looking to focus on a number of key tasks over the next two years.  These include: participating in and then implementing a major organisational and governance review; building solid working relationships across the organisation (trustees, staff, members); strengthening the financial robustness of the organisation; creating a project plan for building relocation; optimally positioning the organisation in terms of digital technologies; ensuring the effective marketing of our activities.

The person

We are looking for someone with an unusual clarity of purpose, an ability to energetically and robustly make things happen, and to demonstrate exceptional tact, diplomacy and communication skills to carry the membership with them. In return you will be at the helm of one of the most important psychotherapy organisations in the UK, and enjoy the reward of making a tangible difference to the health and social care landscape of the country.

The post is based at our office in London, but we are committed to building the organisation across the regions and nations of the UK.
