One Year into Brexit: History, Synchronicity and Meaning Making
This ‘patient’ arrived too early for his analysis and left notes after him…
“Our sick society needs treatment as if it were a sick child…
Yes, I have been famished and cold, even if I am related to some of the leading families of Europe…
We shall all be converted to Islam…
There is now no other means of overcoming the economic embarrassment that Europe finds itself in, except with international and joint participation of all its governments. It is urgent, very urgent to think about because I foresee economic crises about which we have no concept…”
Théodore de Korwin Szymanowski
Here are extracts from a re-discovered imaginal French text on The Future of Europe, first published in Paris in 1885, and re-issued in 2015. From it emerges a striking likeness of the European Union. Asked to research into the author’s background, Ann Kutek wondered if this could justifiably be described as a case of ‘historical synchronicity’. She will present her findings and consider the work in analytic terms and its pertinence for today.
About the speaker
Ann Kutek is a BJAA member in private practice. She has taught at the BAP, BJAA, on the Birkbeck MSc course and in Poland, where she also supervises IAAP routers. She writes on applications of analytical psychology in political and social contexts.
